Going
Forward by Going Back
Text: Jeremiah 6:16, Thus says the Lord: "Stand in the ways and see, And
ask for the old paths, where the good way is, And walk in it; Then you will
find rest for your souls." (NKJV)
Introduction:
We live in a progressive society. Advances are made in technology
every day which enhance our lives and make us more productive with less
physical effort. Many people strive to keep themselves abreast of the
newest things coming out. The newest fashions, the latest cars, the
best and the biggest and the most modern stuff is in high demand. We
are a progressive people who strive to push ever forward and we live in a
world that is ever changing from day to day.

The
New Testament Pattern For Christianity
The New Testament is God's current will for man. The New Testament makes
the internal claim that all things had been given to the first century
Christians that pertain to life and Godliness, (2 Peter 1:3). Paul taught
us that studying the scriptures could make us complete and thoroughly
furnish us toward righteousness, (2 Timothy 3:16-17). From this we can
rightly conclude that the scriptures contain everything required to know
God's will for us and live a pleasing life in His sight. Faith comes by
hearing and hearing by the word of God, (Romans 10:17). There is no other
source we can depend on to provide us with a reliable means of salvation.

Spiritual Morality
When we hear the word adultery, our minds immediately
register sin. And so it should, for adultery is sin – a transgression of God’s
law (1 Corinthians 6:9,10). Today we live in a time when physical adultery is
accepted almost without question by the majority. Some in the Lord’s Church are
openly living in adultery! We have not taught fully nor correctly on this
subject in many congregations nor in our homes. There are some who “Do not want
to offend anyone.” So they do not teach on it at all. This is to our shame. For
God teaches that those who die in an adulterous state will be lost! (Galatians
5: 19-21; Revelations 22:15; 1 Cor. 6:9,10). |

The Rise of Christianity
Christianity either is of divine origin, or it is not. If it is not of divine
origin, then it is of human origin. If it is of human origin, then it is a
false religion, because it claims to be of sacred design. On the other hand,
if Christianity is of God, as it claims, there ought to be compelling evidence
to buttress that affirmation.
In this lesson, I would like
for us to focus on several factors which argue for the sacred origin of the
religious system founded by Jesus Christ.
Factors Involved in the
Rise of Christianity
Christianity: A New
Religion
A Religious Explosion
An Unlikely Place of
Origin
An Unlikely Leader
Christian Intolerance: An
Unpopular Concept
Christianity: A Dangerous
Proposition

Good Vision
If I was to say the words good
vision, what would come to mind? Good
vision. I’m sure, if we thought
about that very long, some of us would get the idea in our minds that it was
something to do with our eyesight, being able to see. Well, here in Proverbs Chapter 29 verse 18, notice
it says,
“(Proverbs 29:18) Where there is no vision, the
people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he.”
Where there
is vision, the people perish. Now,
obviously, this not talking about physical vision, eyesight. It’s talking about something else. This word here, translated vision
in the King James translation, comes
from a Hebrew word. It is a Hebrew
word that is very related to another word in the Hebrew. That other word means to
gaze at, to mentally perceive or to contemplate, specifically
to have a vision of. So the
actual word that is translated here means having
sight mentally. It can mean a dream, a revelation, or an
oracle. It has to do with sight
and it has to do with seeing, but it’s not physical eyesight.
We’re talking here in terms of spiritual vision.
We gain proper vision spiritually through God’s word.
Notice the contrast that is set up in this verse.
Again, Proverbs 29 verse 18.
“(Proverbs 29:18) Where there is no vision, the
people perish: but” — in contrast — “but he that keepeth the
law, happy is he.”
And so we find that if we are going to have
vision; that is, that spiritual vision, we need to be looking toward God’s
word. It is God’s instructions
that provide the spiritual vision that we all need.
