Proper Conduct

Introduction: recall the words of Titus 2: one. Proper for sound doctrine. Teaching that is spiritually healthy and wholesome which leads to godly conduct. Paul has already addressed older men, older women, younger women period now he turns his attention to young men and then servants (slaves).

Text: Titus 2: 6-10

1.       Proper conduct for young men. (vs 6-10)

a.       Exhort- cheer, encourage, call to.

b.       Sober minded, Be sensible, wise, think straight, to be discreet, to think and act soberly, to use sound judgment, to be self disciplined and self controlled in ones life. Must consider your companions, one corinthians 15: 33

c.       showing a pattern of good works-their good works were to be typical of their lives and habitual. Matthew 5: 16 karma the world is watching and needs to see good useful, loving deeds done by Christians.

d.       In doctrine showing integrity- doctrine is teaching and instruction. Should be pure and genuine, free from adulterations. 2 Corinthians 1: 12-14, 2: 17.  Should be serious, solemn, respectful, dignified.

e.       Sound speech- wholesome, healthy, failed with truth. Ephesians 4: 29. Promotes well-being of others, promotes christian growth period according to the need karma as fits the occasion. Proverbs 25: 11. Cannot be condemned- blameless, above reproach one Timothy 4: 12.

f.        Examples of young men:

                                                             i.      Joseph maintained his integrity

                                                             ii.      David slew giants

                                                            iii.      Daniel did not defile himself

2.       Proper conduct for bond servants (VS 9-10)

a.       Obedient to masters, submissive, subject to, ephesians 6: 5-7, colossians 3: 23-24. Duty was to serve. Offer obedience out of devotion to Christ.

b.       Well pleasing, to give satisfaction in every respect, to do what is wanted. Try to please as long as what they want is not sinful, not immoral, or illegal. Acts 5: 29.

c.       Not answering back, not argumentative, not talking back, not critical or caustic.

d.       Not pilfering, not taking something that doesn't belong to you. Stealing, embezzling, Ephesians 4: 28, proverbs 10: 2; 20-17.

e.       Showing good fidelity, trustworthy, faithful, Matthew 24: 45-47; Luke 16: 10-12.

f.        Adorn the doctrine, make the teaching of God attractive, more appealing to unbelievers period to show the beauty of the teaching of god. Christians should show the beauty and Value of following God's word.

 

3.       Conclusion: proper conduct for followers of Christ is essential to the advancement of his Kingdom. May we all aspire to adorn the doctrine of God.
