Sermon/Lesson Title |
Job’s ancient question still presses on
every heart: “If a man dies, shall he live
again?” (Job 14:14). Scripture gives God’s
answer. “It is appointed for men to die
once, but after this the judgment” (Hebrews
9:27, NKJV). Death meets every generation,
and God has revealed what follows. Today we
will let the Bible speak about death, the
unseen realm, the resurrection, the return
of Christ, the final judgment, and the only
wise response. |
Throughout history, men have described death as the “king of
terrors” (Job 18:14). Aristotle said death was to be feared above
all because it appeared to be the end of everything. Shakespeare
called it the “undiscovered country” from which no traveler returns.
David wrote in Psalm 55:4–5, “My heart is severely pained within me,
and the terrors of death have fallen upon me. Fearfulness and
trembling have come upon me, and horror has overwhelmed me.” Many
today still view death with dread. Yet God does not want His people
to be paralyzed with terror. Through Christ, the fear of death is
broken, and believers can face death with confidence and hope. |
The Wisdom of Death
News headlines often linger on the lives of innovators
and leaders. After Steve Jobs’ passing, one line from his 2005 Stanford
address stood out: remembering that we will die clarifies what truly
matters. Scripture said it first. Solomon teaches that facing death with
wisdom reorders our days, our priorities, and our hopes (Ecclesiastes
7:2–4). Tonight we will listen to the wise, learn to number our days,
and live this brief life in light of eternity. |
