The Sin Of Laziness
Introduction:
One of the dangers of modern life is
rearing children to be lazy. No farming chores, no gardening. We have
dishwashers and clothes dryers, so many young people are raised with poor
work habits. They spend time on useless pursuits. Many of these young people
become lazy adults with little ambition. They believe the world owes them
something. How does God feel about this? We can look at the parable of the
talents in Matthew 25:26. “You wicked and lazy servant.”
Body:
1.
things that keep people from working
·
Too much sleep:
Proverbs 6:6-11. Stays in bed too long; Wasteful; idle; Proverbs 26:14,
19:15. Can love sleep too much; Proverbs 20:13. Becomes a panhandler. Wake
out of lethargy
·
Too much talking:
Proverbs 14:23, idle chatter. They spend their time texting, emailing,
messaging, and using chat rooms instead of laboring.
·
No motivation:
Proverbs 19:24, no ambition or desire. Everything has been
given to them. They have never had to earn anything. They starve in spite of
opportunity.
·
Procrastination:
They keep putting things off. Proverbs 20:4. Make hay while the sun shines.
The time for work is short.
·
Excuses:
reasons for not doing a job. Proverbs 26:16-20:4. Claims it's too cold,
Proverbs 22:13. Claims it's too dangerous.

What laziness produces:
·
Waste:
proverbs 12:27, wastes what he has, proverbs 24:30-31. He doesn't take care
of what he has, Proverbs 18:9, to come to ruin, LAX, gross negligence.
·
Poverty:
Proverbs 6:9-11, Proverbs 10:4-5. The soul of a lazy man desires and has
nothing. Proverbs 13:4. He expects others to take care of him.
·
Unfulfilled desire:
Proverbs 21:25-26. Dissatisfied because he won't work for what he wants.
·
Shame:
Proverbs 10:5. Who can be proud of a lazy son?
·
Pain to others:
Proverbs 10:26. Difficult to be around, obnoxious, irritates and annoys
others.

What a good work ethic produces:
·
Self-discipline:
Proverbs 6:6-8. Works well even if the boss is not around. Possesses good
industry- foresight – work ethic - integrity.
·
Motivation:
Proverbs 16:26 works to fulfill his needs and wants. If he desires
something, he knows he will have to work for it., burdensome labor,
exertion.
·
Prosperity:
Proverbs 10:4. The diligent worker usually prospers more than the lazy man.
Conclusion:
Work was a part of God's original plan for mankind; Genesis
2 period to be able to work is a blessing God has given to us.
