The Supremacy of Christ

The Supremacy of Christ

Introduction
C.S. Lewis captured the Christian journey in The Chronicles of Narnia. Lucy embraces Aslan and says, “You’re bigger.” Aslan replies, “Every year you grow, you will find me bigger.” The more we grow, the bigger Christ becomes. The book of Hebrews invites us to grow and see Jesus as supreme over all.

Cosmic Supremacy
Hebrews 1:2–3 reveals Christ as heir, creator, sustainer, radiator, and representor.

As heir, He inherits the nations (Psalm 2:8) and the ends of the earth, yet we also are His inheritance (Ephesians 1:18). We belong to Him, and in Him all things are ours (1 Corinthians 3:21–23).

As creator, all things—galaxies, particles, time itself—exist through Him (John 1:3; 1 Corinthians 8:6). In Him we are made new creations (2 Corinthians 5:17).

As sustainer, He upholds the universe by His word (Colossians 1:17). He sustains our Christian walk, for our sufficiency is from God (2 Corinthians 3:5).

As radiator, He shines the very glory of God. On the Mount of Transfiguration, His glory blazed whiter than any launderer could make garments (Mark 9:3). Paul also was struck by that radiant light on the road to Damascus (Acts 9:3; Acts 22:6).

As representor, He is the exact image of the Father. As Jesus told Philip, “He who has seen Me has seen the Father” (John 14:9). The Son is the ultimate revelation of God.

Priestly Supremacy
Christ’s supremacy is also priestly.

As purifier, He shed His blood to cleanse sin. “Without shedding of blood there is no remission” (Hebrews 9:22). Revelation 1:5 says He “washed us from our sins in His own blood.”

As ruler, He completed His work and sat down at God’s right hand. Unlike Levitical priests who never finished (Hebrews 10:11–12), Jesus’ one sacrifice is enough forever. God has exalted Him and given Him the name above all names (Philippians 2:9–10). From that throne, He intercedes for us (Romans 8:34).

Conclusion
Do you know God’s Son? He is supreme in power, authority, and glory. He is the heir of all things, the creator of the universe, the sustainer of life, the purifier of sin, and the ruler who reigns forever. Hebrews calls us to see Jesus bigger, trust Him deeper, and obey Him fully. He is the author of eternal salvation to all who obey Him.
