Ring It Out
A Sermon based on the Hymn by
F.L. Rowe
Introduction:
“Ring It Out” is a rallying cry for evangelism. It calls every Christian
to proclaim the good news of salvation with urgency, boldness, and love.
The gospel is not meant to be kept silent—it is a message of life that
must echo from heart to heart, city to city, and nation to nation.
Inspired by passages like Mark 16:15 and Romans 10:14–17, this hymn
reminds us of the power and responsibility we have to share the gospel.
It is a song of mission, of light shining into darkness, and of souls
being rescued by the message of Christ.
Stanza 1: “Ring it out with
gladness! Ring it out!”
The first stanza emphasizes the joy of the gospel. This is not a message
of sorrow, but of salvation. Psalm 96:2 says, “Proclaim the good news of
His salvation from day to day.” We are to “ring it out” not in dread,
but with gladness—because it offers freedom from sin. Like the apostles
in Acts 5:42, we should daily share Christ’s message with enthusiasm and
faith.
Stanza 2: “Tell the world of
saving grace…”
The second stanza points to the global need for the gospel. Souls are
perishing in darkness, and only the message of Christ can rescue them.
Romans 1:16 declares the gospel as “the power of God to salvation.” It
is not a cultural message—it is universal. We must preach to all who
have not heard, because every soul matters to God.
Stanza 3: “Send it out to
sweep the mighty sea…”
This stanza paints the image of gospel truth sweeping across the world
like a powerful wave. Isaiah 55:11 assures us that God’s word will not
return void. The “mighty sea” may represent nations, peoples, and
languages—the scope of God’s kingdom knows no boundaries. From house to
house, and shore to shore, the message must go out.
Chorus: “Ring it out! Ring it
out!”
The chorus reinforces the urgency. We are not merely singing—we are
being sent. Like a bell that calls a town to gather, or an alarm that
awakens sleepers, the gospel must ring out. Romans 10:14–15 reminds us:
“How shall they hear without a preacher?” If we are silent, the world
remains in darkness.

Call to Action:
Will you ring it out? The message of salvation cannot be hidden. Christ
is calling us to be His messengers, to take the gospel across the street
and across the world. If you've not obeyed the gospel yourself, let
today be the day: believe (John 3:16), repent (Acts 2:38), confess
(Romans 10:9–10), and be baptized (Mark 16:16). Then go out and ring it
out to others.
