When All of God’s Singers Get
Home
A Sermon based on
the Hymn by William M. Golden
Introduction:
This joyful hymn looks beyond this life to the eternal home of the
redeemed. It celebrates the hope of heaven, where every child of God
will sing in perfect harmony. Despite life’s trials, we lift our voices
in faith—knowing that glorious day is coming, when we all sing together.
Stanza 1: “What a
song of delight in that city so bright…”
This stanza paints a vivid picture of heaven as a city filled with
joyful song. It is described as “so bright” because, as Revelation 21:23
reveals, the Lamb is its light. The redeemed will raise their voices in
a song of delight, not weighed down by sorrow or struggle, but lifted in
purity and praise. Psalm 16:11 assures us that in God’s presence is
fullness of joy, and this stanza directs our eyes to that joy awaiting
all the faithful.
Stanza 2: “As
we sing here on earth songs of sadness or mirth…”
Our songs on earth are often mixed—some joyful, others mournful. Yet
even our earthly singing is a preparation for the heavenly chorus.
Colossians 3:16 teaches us to sing with grace in our hearts to the Lord.
Whether we sing through trials or triumphs, every faithful song is a
rehearsal for that eternal melody awaiting us. Psalm 42:8 reminds us
that God gives songs in the night, encouraging us even in dark times.
Stanza 3:
“Having overcome sin, hallelujah, amen…”
This triumphant verse rejoices in the final victory of the saved. Those
who have overcome sin through Christ’s blood will shout “Hallelujah,
Amen!” in glory. Revelation 7:14 tells us the saints in white robes are
those who have washed their garments in the blood of the Lamb. Romans
8:37 reminds us that we are more than conquerors through Him who loved
us. This is the ultimate reason to sing: we are redeemed!
Chorus: “When
all of God’s singers get home…”
The chorus looks forward to the great reunion of God’s people in heaven.
It speaks with confidence: not “if,” but “when.” John 14:2–3 assures us
that Jesus has prepared a place for us. In that place, we will never
part again. The chorus reminds us that our singing now is just the
beginning—we will join the song of Moses and the Lamb forever
(Revelation 15:3).

Call to Action:
Are you preparing to sing in heaven? That eternal chorus will be filled
only with the redeemed—those who have obeyed the gospel and remained
faithful. You must believe in Jesus Christ (John 8:24), repent of your
sins (Acts 17:30), confess His name (Romans 10:9–10), and be baptized
for the forgiveness of sins (Acts 2:38). Then live as a servant in His
kingdom, worshiping with joy and hope. If you’ve drifted from the faith,
come back before the song begins. When all of God’s singers get home,
will you be in that number?
