The Book of Acts
Acts
Chapter 1:6-8
Verses 6-7 Acts
1:6-7
Therefore, when they had come together, they asked Him, saying
Lord, will You at this time restore the kingdom to Israel? And He
said to them, It is not for you to know times or seasons which the
Father has put in His own authority,
NKJV
Some things the apostles still didnt know about the kingdom,
especially the timing. Old Testament prophets spoke of the coming
of the Lords kingdom.
Daniel 7:13-14
I was watching in the night visions, And behold, One like the
Son of Man, Coming with the clouds of heaven! He came to the
Ancient of Days, And they brought Him near before Him. Then to Him
was given dominion and glory and a kingdom, That all peoples,
nations, and languages should serve Him. His dominion is an
everlasting dominion, Which shall not pass away, And His kingdom the
one Which shall not be destroyed.
NKJV
[His ascension]
Mark 9:1
And He said to them, Assuredly, I say to you that there are some
standing here who will not taste death till they see the kingdom of
God present with power.
NKJV
Ephesians
1:20-23 which He worked in Christ when He raised Him
from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly
places, far above all principality and power and might and dominion,
and every name that is also in that which is to come. And He put
all things under His feet, and gave Him to be head over all things
to the church, which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills all
in all.
NKJV
Verse 8
Acts 1:8
But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon
you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea
and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.
NKJV
The apostles would receive power when the Holy Spirit came upon
them. This is the baptism of the Holy Spirit. See
Luke 24:49
Behold, I send the Promise of My Father upon you; but tarry in
the city of Jerusalem until you are endued with power from on high.
NKJV
[the promise of the Father] Also
Acts 1:5
for John truly baptized with water, but you shall be baptized
with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.
NKJV
The apostles would become witnesses to Jesus resurrection because
they had actually seen it.
Acts 1:21-22
Therefore, of these men who have accompanied us all the time
that the Lord Jesus went in and out among us, beginning from the
baptism of John to that day when He was taken up from us, one of
these must become a witness with us of His resurrection.
NKJV
