The Book of Acts
Chapter 1:9-11
Verses 9-11
Acts 1:9-11
“Now when He had spoken these things, while they watched, He was
taken up, and a cloud received Him out of their sight. And while
they looked steadfastly toward heaven as He went up, behold, two men
stood by them in white apparel, who also said, ‘Men of Galilee, why
do you stand gazing up into heaven? This same Jesus, who was taken
up from you into heaven, will so come in like manner as you saw Him
go into heaven.”
NKJV
It was now time for Jesus to return to heaven to be with the
Father. Recall
John 7:33-34.
“Then Jesus said to them, “I shall be with you a little while
longer, and then I go to Him who sent Me. You will seek Me and not
find Me, and where I am you cannot come.”
NKJV
His ascension took place on the Mount of Olives.
Acts 1:12
“Then they returned to Jerusalem from the mount called Olivet, which
is near Jerusalem, a Sabbath day’s journey.”
NKJV
He is going home to glory.
I Peter 3:22
“who has gone into heaven and is at the right hand of God, angels
and authorities and powers having been made subject to Him.”
NKJV
Psalm 2:1-7
“Why do the nations rage, And the people plot a vain thing? The
kings of the earth set themselves, And the rulers take counsel
together, Against the Lord and against His Anointed, saying, Let us
break Their bonds in pieces And cast away Their cords from us. He
who sits in the heavens shall laugh; The Lord shall hold them in
derision. Then He shall speak to them in His wrath, And distress
them in His deep displeasure: Yet I have set My King On My holy
hill of Zion. I will declare the decree; The Lord has said to Me,
You are My Son,”
NKJV
Acts 4:23-28
“And being let go, they went to their own companions and reported
all that the chief priests and elders had said to them. So when
they heard that, they raised their voice to God with one accord and
said: Lord, You are God, who made heaven and earth and the sea, and
all that is in them. who by the mouth of Your servant David have
said: Why did the nations rage, And the people plot vain things?
The kings of the earth took their stand, And the rulers were
gathered together Against the Lord and against His Christ. For
truly against Your holy Servant Jesus, whom You anointed, both Herod
and Pontius Pilate, with the Gentiles and the people of Israel, were
gathered together to do whatever Your hand and Your purpose
determined before to be done.”
NKJV
Isaiah 52:13
“Behold, My Servant shall deal prudently; He shall be exalted and
extolled and be very high.”
NKJV
Two angels appeared to help prepare the apostles. They tell the
apostles that Jesus is really gone. His work is now up to them.
But He would return one day in the same manner in which He left.
His return will be visible, in the clouds, at an unexpected time and
with power.
Revelation 1:7
Behold, He is coming with clouds, and every eye will see Him, even
they who pierced Him. And all the tribes of the earth will mourn
because of Him. Even so, Amen.
NKJV
I Thessalonians 5:2
“For you yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so comes
as a thief in the night.”
NKJV
Hebrews 9:27-28
“And as it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the
judgment, so Christ was offered once to bear the sins of many. To
those who eagerly wait for Him He will appear a second time, apart
from sin, for salvation.”
NKJV
I John 2:28
“And now, little children, abide in Him, that when He appears, we
may have confidence and not be ashamed before Him at His coming.”
NKJV
