Islam – Part 7

Introduction:

Further study of Islam reveals many more major differences between the Quran and the Bible.

Body:

I.   Eternal Judgment

Islam

  • Believes in seven heavens (Surah 2, 23…) and Paradise which is apparently among the seven heavens.
  • Believes heaven to be filled with carnal, physical pleasures.    (Surah 76)  These include men having access to beautiful virgins.  (Surah 56)
  • Believes hell is a real place with blazing fire and boiling hot water.  (Surah 40, 73)  One is forced to eat and drink certain things.     (Surah 38, 78)

 Christianity

  • Teaches there are three heavens:  the atmosphere (Luke 13:19), outer space (Deuteronomy 4:19), the spirit realm where God is (Deuteronomy 26:15).
  • “Paradise” is used almost exclusively in the New Testament to refer to the section of the hadean realm where righteous spirits await the Lord’s return.  (Luke 16:22, 25; Luke 23:43)  Paradise will be terminated at the Judgment.  (Revelation 20L13-14)
  • Heaven is not described in great detail in the Bible.  Just glimpses are given in Revelation 21: and 22:)
  • Hell is a place where the fire is never quenched (Mark 9:43-44); there is everlasting punishment (Matthew 25:46; it is prepared for the devil and his angels (Matthew 25:41; and there is outer darkness (Matthew 8:12).

 II.   Marriage

Islam

  • Polygamy – A man may have up to four wives at a time.          (Surah 4, 23)
  • Divorce – A man can divorce for any reason.  (Surah 2, 33, 58)

 Christianity

  • God’s desire from the beginning has been one man for one wife.  (Matthew 19:4-6; Deuteronomy 17:17)  God did not always punish polygamy immediately under the Old Law.
  • God hates divorce (Malachi 2:16) and only approves of remarriage now if the divorce was for fornication.  (Matthew 19:5-9)

 III.   Violence and War

 Islam

  • Allows the use of physical violence in promoting Islam against unbelievers and idolaters.
  • The teaching of the Koran alone should be enough to convince anyone that Islam is not the tolerant religion some try to make it out to be.  The following verses are only a few examples.

“Fighting is prescribed upon you, and ye dislike it.  But it is possible that ye dislike a thing that is good for you. . .”  (Surah 2:216)

“Those who believe fight in the cause of Allah, and those who reject faith fight in the cause of evil:  so fight ye against the friends of Satan . . .”   (Surah 4:76)

“The punishment of those who wage war against Allah and His Messenger, and strive with might and main for mischief through the land is:  execution, or crucifixion, or the cutting off of hands and feet from opposite sides, or exile from the land.”  (Surah 5:33)

“Against them make ready your strength to the utmost of you power, including steeds of war, to strike terror into (the hearts of the enemies, of Allah and your enemies, and others besides . . .”   (Surah 8:60)

“But when the forbidden months are past, then fight and slay the pagans wherever ye find them, and seize them, and beleaguer them, and lie in wait for them in every stratagem (of war) . . .”   (Surah 9:5)

“Fight those who believe not in Allah nor the last day, nor hold that forbidden which hath been forbidden by Allah and His Messenger, nor acknowledge the Religion of Truth, from among the people of the Book, until they pay the jizyah with willing submission and feel themselves subdued.” (Surah 9:29)

“Therefore, when ye meet the unbelievers (in fight), smite at their necks; at length, when ye have thoroughly subdued them, bind a bond firmly on them.”  (Surah 47:4)

The second bullet point and the quoted verses are from:

Living Oracles, Vol. 21 No. 6, NOV-DEC 2011, Cookeville, TN

 Christianity

  • Christians do not repay evil with evil.  (Matthew 5:38-39, 43-44)
  • Disciples were not to fight.   (John 18:36)
  • Christians are not to promote faith through carnal weapons.         (II Corinthians 10:3-5)
  • Jehovah commanded His people to destroy the Canaanites who were totally wicked and depraved.  No solution except extermination.  (Leviticus 18:24-25, Deuteronomy 9:4, 18:9-12)

Conclusion:

“Islam seeks to bring the entire world into submission to Allah and the Quran, even using Jihad, coercion, and force; Christianity seeks to go into all the world and to announce the good news that God loves every individual, that Jesus Christ died for all the sins of everyone, and that He offers salvation, forgiveness, and reconciliation.”

Matt 11:28-29
"Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls."
