I will not go up in your midst

Introduction: God's people, the nation of Israel, had journeyed from the Red Sea, having experienced great miracles there, and arrived at Mount Sinai in the third month after leaving Egypt. Moses, the leader of God's people, is called to the top of the mountain by the Lord, where he receives the words of Exodus 20-23. Then, the critical event of Exodus 24: 3 happens. Then Moses receives the covenant on a very solemn occasion ( 24: 7-8). Following this, the events of 24:12 and 13 occur. Moses is there on Mount Sinai for 40 days and 40 nights, where he receives instructions recorded in Max 25: 31. this helps prepare us for what happens next.

Sinners In The Hands Of An Angry God

Introduction:  I was first introduced to this sermon by Jonathan Edwards in college. Edwards would later become president of Princeton University. This powerful sermon struck fear in the hearts of its listeners when delivered in 1741. There are several lessons from this sermon which are biblically relevant for us to hear. (Adapted from Jay. Brody)

1.   God is all powerful

2.   All accountable people sin

3.   Hell is real

4.   Satan is actively striving to lure people

5.   Only God's mercy saves us from this horror.

6.   Time is short, so don't delay.

7.   The only way to escape hell is faith and obedience.

A Tale Of Two Cities

Read Genesis 19:24-25. "Then the Lord rained brimstone and fire on Sodom and Gomorrah, from the Lord out of the heavens.  So He overthrew those cities, all the plain, all the inhabitants of the cities, and what grew on the ground."

These verses describe the end of Sodom and Gomorrah when God brought judgment upon them and the surrounding cities.  But why did God do this?  In finding out, we will discover several truths from this tale of two cities.

Body:

1. God Honors Intercessory Prayer

2. You Can’t Decide to Live Near Sin and Think It Won't Affect You

3. God Hates All Sexual Perversion

4.God's Grace Has A Expiration Date

5. God Always Provides A Way of Escape

Conclusion:

This tale of two cities teaches us how powerful the influence of sin really is and its terrible consequences.  Be careful where you pitch your tent!
