Christians reign with Christ
Royalty captures our imagination with kings and queens
reigning over their nations. Did you know the Bible states that
Christians reign with Christ? How and when will that take place?
I. A trustworthy Saying II Timothy 2:11-13
- “Died with Him” Romans 6:2-5 We live with
Christ both now and in the future. Galatians 2:20
- “Endure” II Thessalonians 1:4, I Peter
3:18-20 We reign with Him. I
will discuss shortly how we reign both now and in the future.
- “Deny Him” Matthew 10:32-33 Remember Peter’s
three denials.
- “Faithless” Romans 3:1-4 Because God
is faithful, He cannot treat the faithless one as though he were
faithful.
II. Reigning with Christ
- “A royal priesthood” I Peter 2:5,9 Since Christ
is reigning now, we are in a sense reigning with Him now.
Revelation 3:21
- In what ways are we reigning?
*Through righteous lives Romans 5:17 We rule over sin in this world.
*Through righteous judgments I Corinthians 6:2 Christians have the right to tell the world if they are
doing something wrong. (transgressing God’s laws) Acts 4:8:20
*When we teach the world about sin and its consequences, we do so
through the power of the Spirit. John 16:8
III. Inherit the Earth
- Matthew 5:5 This
was not a promise that we would be rich with earthly wealth.
- This phrase is used in the Old Testament.
Psalms 25:12-13, 37:9
- The meek inherit the earth now, in this
life. They enjoy the creation and blessings of this world like
no others can.
- The Bible is not speaking of inheriting a
future earth because this one will be destroyed.
- An aspect of “reigning with Christ” is
inheriting the earth.
Invitation:
The promises listed in our text are both wonderful and
marvelous to consider. We are living and reigning with Christ.
Before we can live and reign, we must submit and die. Are you
willing to do that?
