Satan – Our Enemy
Introduction:
We all have fears of various kinds – flying, spiders, public
speaking.
One of mine is snakes! I can’t stand them though many are quite
harmless. It’s interesting that our greatest enemy, Satan, is first
seen in the Bible as a snake. (Genesis 3:1, Revelation 12:9) Then
the serpent is cursed. (Genesis 3:14-15, I John 3:8)
Theme:
Since Satan is our worst enemy, we need to know all we can
about him!
Body:
I. The Power of Satan
- Adversary and Accuser (I Peter 5:8) Be
aware that our enemy may attack at any time. He is our opponent
and will do anything in his power to win. Satan acted like a
prosecutor and accused Job of only serving God for selfish
reasons. (Job 1) Also see:
(Revelation 12:10)
- Slanderer “Devil” (Matthew 4:1,3) The
Devil tempts us to do wrong. (I Thessalonians 3:5) He wants to
lead us astray, away from our God.
- Ruler of this World (John 14:30) He is
leader of all that is evil and wicked. (Ephesians 6:12,
Ephesians 2:2) The sons of disobedience follow him.
- Destroyer (Revelation 9:11) He does have
power, “prince of demons.” (Matthew 12:24) He is called a
murderer. (John 8:24) He destroys and murders by deceiving
people. (II Corinthians 11:3,14)
II. Our Power over Satan
- Be aware (II Corinthians 2:10-11, I Peter
5:8)
- Resist him “. . .Resist the devil and he
will flee from you.” (James 4:7, Also I Peter 5:9)
- Fight him (Ephesians 6:11-13)
- Overcome him (I John 2:13, Revelation
12:11)
III. Jesus’ Victory over Satan
- Destroy the works of the devil. (I John
3:8)
- Cast out Satan by Christ’s death and
resurrection. (John 12:31-33, Hebrews 2:14-15)
- Satan is condemned to eternal fire.
(Revelation 20:10)
- Death is destroyed. (Revelation 20:14)
“Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire.” (I
Corinthians 15:24-26)
Invitation:
- Christ has made our victory over Satan
possible. (Revelation 2:10-11)
- Read: (I Corinthians 15:50-57)
