The Need for Knowledge
		
		
		Introduction:
		
		
		What is knowledge?  What does it mean to know something?  One definition 
		is that of perception.  (Luke 5:22)  “Jesus perceived their thoughts.”  
		Another definition is the ability to distinguish or discriminate, to 
		determine the difference between knowledge can be information gained by 
		experience.  Another definition is that of understanding and 
		comprehension.  (Nehemiah 8:8)  Knowledge can also be the ability to 
		recognize.  (Matthew 7:15-16)

		I.
		
		
		Where Does Saving Knowledge Come From? 
		
		·
		
		
		God teaches man knowledge.  (Psalm 94:10-11)  Note also  Psalm 
		27:11, 119:66.
		
		·
		
		
		God’s Word makes one wise for salvation.  (II Timothy 3:15) 
		
		
		II.
		
		
		What Should Our Attitude Be?
		
		·
		
		
		Grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord.  (II Peter 3:18, II Peter 
		1:5) Never be content with you current level of knowledge.
		
		·
		
		
		Be filled with and abound in love and knowledge. (Philippians 1:9-10)  
		Love needs to be accompanied with knowledge to truly help others and 
		approve what is excellent.
		
		·
		
		
		Don’t be forgetful.  (II Peter 3:17)  Steadfastness helps us not be 
		carried away by false teaching.  (I John 4:1) 
		
		
		III.
		
		
		What Is the Value?
		
		·
		
		
		Knowledge is better than gold.  (Proverbs 8:8-11)
		
		·
		
		
		Wisdom and knowledge make us stronger.  (Proverbs 24:3-5)
		
		·
		
		
		Knowledge keeps us from destruction.  (Isaiah 5:13)  [i.e.  Drugs, 
		alcohol, certain diseases]
		
		·
		
		
		Reason helps us tell right from wrong.  (Ephesians 5:9-10, Hebrews 5:14)  
		[i.e.  Good and bad teachers; what edifies and what doesn’t ; what’s 
		important and what isn’t, the difference between good, better, and 
		best] 
		
		
		Conclusion:
		
		
		Yes, knowledge is vital to our spiritual lives.  It reveals the way of 
		salvation.  (James 1:21)  Then we can teach others.  (Romans 15:14)
