Saipan/Tinian Report
for August
|
Hafa
Adai from Saipan. We have had another whirlwind month in August.
Once again our regular Thursday night studies have produced fruit.
At 8:30 p.m. on August 21st, Ruel Reyes was baptized into Christ.
Ruel has been faithful in his attendance both in worship as well as
these evangelistic classes. From the very beginning when I met him,
Ruel has been inquisitive asking very insightful questions and
showing great concern for the word of God. In my estimation, he
truly is someone who is seeking the truth (Matthew 7:7-8). Since
his baptism, Ruel has been perfect in his attendance and has
participated publicly in the worship of the Saipan church of
Christ. He is a great encouragement to us. His conversion was a
wonderful example of how friendship evangelism works. His good
friend and our brother Ross, invited him
to
services of the church. From that beginning he determined that we
were preaching and teaching the truth. Truly God’s word is effective
in reaching the hearts of those who desire to know His will. I ask
that you join us in praying for Ruel’s continued zeal for the Lord
and for his growth as a young babe in Christ.

August was a very busy month on the island of Tinian. I
traveled to Tinian a total of 5 times in August. These
trips involved door to door evangelism as well as follow up
on correspondence course students. We now have 18 students
who have signed up for the course on Tinian.
In addition, we found a building to use for worship with a
small two bedroom apartment at the back This will enable us
to save money by not having to rent a tent for services and
not having to pay for the hotel every night. Mr. David
Evangelista is the owner of the building and he has agreed
to let me do some repair work on the building in lieu of
rent.
I have repaired the plumbing which required replacing
fixtures and parts as well as extracting suicidal geckos
from the water lines (Yuck!). Freddie, Jamie, Jared, Dana
Omengkar, and I also painted the inside of the room where we
plan to hold worship services. It is a large room that can
easily hold 40+ people. We will also be able to use the two
bedrooms for classrooms. We still have some work to do on
the building but we plan on having the first service at this
new location, Lord willing, on September 21st.
Two of Mr. Evangelista’s sons, David and Ryan, came by while
I was working . Ryan especially showed interest in our
establishing a congregation, and said he would bring his
wife and two small children to services. Please pray for
our continued efforts to win souls on the island of Tinian.

Hello friends,
I have just
returned from a very brief trip to the states. My grandmother, Mimmie,
died August 29, just five days after her 96th birthday. She lived a
long life of service, and we were able to celebrate her life with joy.
I got the prize for
coming the farthest (just kidding). My mom was comforted by my
unexpected presence. I was thankful for the blessing. The kids didn’t
like me going to the states without them, but they were very mature
about it. I’m thankful to God that it worked out. Here in the
tropics, we get very heavy downpours with little or no lightning or
thunder. The kids like to play in the rain; the hard rains are a
particular treat. The last time Sarah got out in one of these good
soakers, Pat joined her and they had a very good time.
I’m
still teaching the Ladies’ class, and enjoying it tremendously. The
ladies say they are enjoying it as well. I think maybe I enjoy teaching
Bible class as much as Pat does - maybe not, he really loves it.
School is going
well for the children. Pat kept them going while I was gone. Please
continue to keep us in your prayers. We are blessed by each prayer on
our behalf.
Maria
